Nick Reynolds passed away...

I have not had a blog entry in weeks and therefore don't expect to many folks to be following any more. The first rule of blogging is consistency. I was never much for rules anyway. But I must sadly post that I just received a phone call that Nick Reynolds of the Kingston Trio passed away peacefully last night at around 10PM. Nick was one third of the reason why there WAS a Whitsuntide Trio. And after decades of fandum on my part I finally got to not only meet him but play and sing with him at Trio Fantasy Camp back in 2005.

Nick was in a word...a gentleman. A giant in folk music, but a humble and thoughtful human being with a wry sense of humor. My memories of "camp" are even more precious having had him say to me "Tom, you have the best tenor voice in the group". Bill Bush, the author of many a KT3 article and the definitive book about the Kingston Trio reminded me that I should be very proud hearing that out of Nick. I am indeed.

So sadly Nick and John both left this earth in 2008 and have joined Dave Guard "Singing with the Angel Band"...

I still follow. Just sorry you broke the silence for this sad news. - Eileen

I don't think there is a group that I have listened to more over the past 50 years than the Kingston Trio. Losing Dave and John were hard enough...and now Nick. They gave me so much pleasure and inspiration for so many years.

And therein lies both the pain, and the consolation, of the loss. - Eileen

My first album, I was so young, The Kingston Trio at the Hungry Eye, I was enthralled by the harmonies and political comment, little did I know that it would be life inspiring for me, and Nick was the heart of the group, the spark plug, I can almost see him say ""and we will all be blown away". Seems like yesterday.
