I just learned last night that singer/songwriter Garnet Rogers will be playing in town February 1st! He and now deceased brother Stan are two of the most formatable Canadian folk singers of our time. And Garnet is going to be in little Stevens Point next month! I marvel at his wordsmithing with lyrics like:
We are brief as a summer lightning
We are swift as swallow's flight
We are sparks that spiral upward
in the darkness in the night
We are frost upon a window
We won't pass this way again
In the end only love remains...
Here is what one reviewer saids said of Garnet's newest album release:
"The musicianship is impeccable. Rogers' voice resembles nothing so much as dark buckwheat honey; his accompaniments are lovely and thoughtful, and he's an accomplished guitarist. He also plays the flute and other strings. His lyrics sometimes touch the heart to tears, but often sparkle with humor. Listen to "Under the Summer Moonlight", which is about his aunt and uncle -- who still love to dance together after 50+ years".
This is a must see show at Clark Place, http://www.clarkplace.com/ I'll have to take some friends (or go alone).
